Most golfers don't know what happens in a proper club fitting. Here's the actual process, not the sales-floor version.
Know Your Swing Numbers First
Before touching a single club, you need your TrackMan numbers. Swing speed across the bag, launch angle, spin rate, attack angle. These aren't "pro numbers" — they're the basic data that determines what specs work for you. If you don't have them, get them first.

Most golfers skip this step. They go to the shop, hit some clubs, and buy what felt good on the day. Here's what should drive the decision instead.
1. What are you optimizing for?
Distance off the tee? Consistency from the fairway? Spin control around the green? Forgiveness on mis-hits? Every club choice is a tradeoff — no club does everything. Define your priority before you test anything.
2. What's your actual handicap telling you?
A 24-handicapper has different equipment needs than a 12-handicapper — and it's not about the price. High-handicap players typically need game-improvement equipment with higher launch, more forgiveness, and straighter flight. "Upgrading" to a blade before you're ready costs you distance and confidence.
3. What are you playing now, and what's actually wrong with it?
Most golfers blame the equipment when the real issue is technique. Before you replace anything, understand whether your current clubs are genuinely wrong for you or whether a lesson would fix the same problem for less money.
The Shaft Matters More Than The Head
A fitted shaft in a mid-tier head outperforms a premium head in a wrong shaft. Most of the performance difference between golf clubs comes from the shaft — not the brand or the technology story.
Loft Matters More Than Most Think
Loft gapping affects your distance dispersion more than any other factor. Two clubs with the same number stamped on the sole can have very different effective lofts. Check the actual loft, not just the number.
Custom vs Off-The-Rack
Off-the-rack clubs have standard specs. Custom fitted clubs are built to your numbers. The price difference (typically 15-25%) buys you significantly better performance — if the fitting is done properly with launch data.
